Three Guņas of Prakŗti

·         I shall again speak the supreme Jñāna of all Jñāna, knowing which all the munis attain supreme-siddhi from here.
·         Taking shelter of this Jñāna, having attained My dharma, one neither takes birth at the time of creation nor is disturbed at the time of dissolution.
·         My yoni (reproductive part of the body) is the great Brahman. I create, in that womb (Brahman). From there the entire living creation is born.
·         In all wombs, whichever forms appear, their great yoni is Brahman, (and) I am the seed-giving father.
·         Thus Sattvam, Rajah and Tamah Guņa, born of Prakrti bind the imperishable living entity in this body.
·         The sattvam, being purest, illuminating, and without any sins, binds by association with happiness and association with Jñāna.
·         Know that Rajah (Guņa) consisting of attachment, borne of trshņa (desires), binds the embodied by the association of Karma.
·         But know that tamas, borne of ignorance, is the delusion of all embodied living entities, binds the embodied with pramāda (madness), laziness, and also sleepiness.
·         It is said that
·         Sattva binds in happiness,
·         Rajah binds in Karma,
·         but covering Jñāna, Tamas binds in pramāda (madness)
·         Surpassing Rajah and Tamas, Sattvam comes forth.
·         Also like that surpassing Rajah and Sattvam, Tamas comes forth.
·         Thus Tamas and Sattvam, Rajah comes forth.
·         It is said that when Jñāna illuminates all the gates in this body, know at that time sattvam has increased.
·         Activities of greed, activities for a purpose (endeavor), uncontrollable desire in activities, develop when there is a rise of Rajas.
·         Darkness, inactivity, madness and illusion develop when there is a rise of Tamas.
·         When Praļaya occurs, the one with Sattva (Guņa) developed, attains to the pure loka of best-knowers. (Jñāni)
·         Attaining praļaya having Rajas, one takes birth in association of those who are engaged in karma, similarly being dissolved in Tamas, one takes birth in wombs of the foolish.
·         The result of pious action is pure and is said to be in Sāttvikam.
·         But action done in Rājasah results in sorrow,
·         and results of Tāmasah in ajñāna.
·         Jñāna develops from Sattva,
·         greed develops from Rajas, madness, illusion and
·         ajñāna develops from Tamasah.
·         Those situated in Sattva move upwards.
·         Those situated in Raja dwell in the middle.
·         Those situated in Tamasah, have activities of abominable Guņa, and they move downwards.
·         When one properly sees that there is no other performer than these Guņas and knows the Supreme, he attains My nature.
·         When the embodied surpasses all these qualities from which his body is produced, he becomes free from birth, death, old age and distresses, enjoys amŗtam.
