· Arjuna asked “Those who, discarding sastra-vidhi, worship śraddhayānvitāh (faithfully). Is their nistha (faith) in sattva, rajas, or tamas?”
· The sraddhā of that embodied borne out of their own bhāvah (nature) are of three kinds:
· sāttvikī
· rājasī
· tāmasī
· Everyone's faith develops as per their sattva (existence). The kind of faith, this faithful Puruṣaḥ has, he certainly (becomes) that (kind).
· Men
· in sāttvikah, worship the devas
· in rājasah, worship the yaksa and raksam
· in tāmasah, worship preta and bhūta-gana.
· Without following śāstra, those who undergo severe Tapa, (on their own)
· associated with dambha (pride) and ahamkāra (ego),
· impelled by kāma, rāga, and bala.
· torturing the material elements that constitutes the body,
· without consciousness of Me,
· Know them for sure to be aśura.
· Also everyone's Āhāra (food) is of three kinds. The same (holds true) for
· Yajña
· Tapa and
· Dāna
· Hear this division.
